Pawsitive Impact operates across two countries addressing animal welfare challenges in rural China and Rome, GA through direct involvement, community partnership, social media advocation, and hands-on volunteer work.

In Shenzhen,China: We Support 全心犬意

全心犬意 is a grassroots animal shelter local to my hometown in Shenzhen, China. Unlike many institutional shelters in the states, 全心犬意 operates through community-driven efforts only. They host weekly adoption events at shopping centers, running a group chat where members can directly fund the care of sick or stray animals and relying entirely on the will of individual donors to keep their operations running.

We followed and supported 全心犬意's work closely since the shelter's mission first caught our attention. At first, I wanted to volunteer directly over the summer. However, according to local laws, as a minor, I was not allowed to participate in on-site volunteer work. But each day, the shelter's group chat is filled with emergency cases: urgent requests for medical fees, injured animals of all kinds, and dying stray animals. Seeing these updated every day makes it impossible for us to look away: After learning about the financial difficulties facing grassroots shelters like this one, where volunteers fund the majority of animal care out of their own pockets, instead of stepping back, we organized a pop-up fundraising stand in June 2025, raising 521.8 RMB that was donated directly to the shelter. We also participated in the shelter's community group, staying updated on individual animals in need and contributing to funding campaigns for sick strays requiring urgent veterinary care.

Reflection for receiving the Certificate

In Georgia, United States: We Volunteer at PAWs and Floyd Felines

Other than advocating for animal support in China, we have also built partnerships with two local animal shelters in Rome, Georgia, next to our school.

PAWs: PAWS is an animal shelter in Rome that partners with Darlington School. We are grateful to work with them, as the shelter provides animals with the social interaction and companionship they need during their time waiting for adoption. I have volunteered at PAWs on multiple occasions, spending time with the dogs in their outdoor yard: not just playing with them, but giving them exercise and offering the kind of consistent human presence that makes a real difference to an animal waiting for a home.

Floyd Felines: our other partner is a cat-focused shelter, also local to Rome and Darlington School. What makes Floyd Felines especially meaningful to us is that it runs entirely on volunteer power, similar to 全心犬意 in ShenZhen. There is no paid staff, no institutional budget cushion. There is just a community of people who show up. Being part of that community has shaped how I think about what sustainable, grassroots animal care actually looks like.

Volunteering at both shelters has grounded Pawsitive Impact in something beyond fundraising numbers. I have seen firsthand how stretched local shelters are, and how much a few hours of consistent, caring presence can mean to an animal that has been waiting weeks for a home. That experience is what connects our work here in Georgia to our work in China.

While volunteering allows me to provide emotional companionship, fundraising allows me to directly improve living conditions of animals.
